Stephen served as the Program Coordinator and Visual Designer for the
Legends Drum and Bugle Corps, from Kalamazoo, Michigan from 2011 through
2013. Under his artistic direction, Legends was named a Drum Corps
International Open Class Finalist each year and the 2012 DCI Open Class
“Most Improved” corps.
Previously, he was a public school band director in central Florida for seventeen
years and a member of the music education faculty of Southeastern University
in Lakeland, Florida. Stephen was the Frostproof Middle-Senior High School
Teacher of the Year in 2005 and has been listed in "Who’s Who of American
Teachers" twice.
Stephen earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of
Central Florida, where he studied trumpet with Lyman Brodie and John
Almeida. He performed as a member of the Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle
Corps.
Stephen is an active judge for Drum Corps International. He adjudicates
marching bands as a member of the Central States Judges Association, indoor
guard, percussion, and winds with the Florida Federation Judges Association,
and auxiliaries for the Florida Bandmasters’ Association.
AUXILIARY
Tim Hart Hometown:
Tim has designed for, consulted with, and taught color guards in Kentucky,
Ohio, and Indiana since 1984 and has been judging color guard and visual
captions for the marching arts since 1987. In addition to being an adjudicator
for the Central States Judges Association, TriState Marching Arts, CWEA,
NTCA, TCGC, WGAZ, OMEA, and KMEA, he is also a member of Phi Mu Alpha
Sinfonia.
A graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, Northern Kentucky University, and
the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Hart has worked in education since 1989. He
currently serves as Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment for the
Felicity-Franklin Local Schools (OH).
PERCUSSION
Dr. Mark Cole Hometown: Jacksonville, FL
Dr. Mark Cole is an Associate Professor of Music Education and Director of
Bands at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, NC. He holds the
Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Central Florida, the Master of
Music Degree in Wind Conducting from the Florida State University, and the
Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education from the University of South Florida.
He has directed the bands at Ridgewood High School, the Bands of America
regional champion, 2002 Grand National semi-finalist, and 5-time FMBC
champion Cypress Creek High School, North Port High School, and the
Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, which won the 2006 Down Beat
Magazine Student Music Award for the best arts school symphonic band in the
nation. He was also on the design and instructional staff of the 1995 DCI finalist
Magic of Orlando.
During his career as a Navy musician, he served as Musical Director for the
